Nambucca Valley & towns

Nambucca Valley, North Coast NSW is a central location on the Pacific Highway halfway between Sydney and Brisbane. The Nambucca Valley is the southern gateway to Sub Tropical Australia. As well as being part of the Pacific Coast Touring Route the Nambucca Valley is the Southern coastal end of the scenic Waterfall Way.

NAMBUCCA HEADS – (pop 10,000) fabulous beaches only a few minutes off the Pacific Highway. Nambucca Heads is well worth a detour – in fact it has become even more popular since the highway bypassed the main street! An important coastal port with ship building and timber mills as the main industries in the 1800’s and early 1900”s, this is now a major tourist destination for discerning visitors.

MACKSVILLE – (pop. 6000) a peaceful riverside town on the Pacific Highway; a pleasant place to relax. The riverside parks and the attractive ‘Lily pond’ parkland at the southern entrance to the town are popular resting places for travellers. Rich in history; the wide river provides many recreational opportunities –sailing, canoeing, jet ski & waterskiing, fishing and rowing; tasty food products; art & craft; historic country pubs.

SCOTTS HEAD – ( pop. 1000) the ‘undiscovered gem’ of the east coast, this seaside village is very popular with visitors and locals alike. In April 1999 a tug carrying Chinese boatpeople landed on the main surf beach. To date this is the most southern landing of the boatpeople.

BOWRAVILLE – (pop. 1000). A Heritage Town in the centre of the Nambucca Shire. Known as “The Verandah Post Town” as many of the shops in High Street have overhanging verandas. Originally called “Bowra”, the name was changed to avoid confusion with Nowra & Bowral. Arts, crafts, history, culture, horse racing, characters, attractive farmland, mountain rainforests.
